We support energy research and development, fostering synergy and collaboration between industry, research, and institutions

Research and innovation are a decisive factor in promoting economic growth in the region. A synergistic relationship of cooperation between companies and universities is a critical factor in fostering the dissemination of knowledge and the results of research for the benefit of society, economic growth, social cohesion, and improved future employment prospects.

This section focusses on research and innovation studies in which our company is engaged.

PROJECT FINANCING

This project, carried out in collaboration with the Scuola Superiore S. Anna in Pisa and the Tuscany Region, is aimed at improving energy efficiency through Public Administrations’ use of innovative financial instruments.

THE SIGS PROJECT - INTEGRATED GEOTHERMAL SOLAR HEATING AND COOLING SYSTEM BASED ON SMART GRID LOGIC

The collaboration between Toscana Energia Green, the University of Pisa, the CNR (National Research Council of Italy), the Scuola Superiore S. Anna, the companies Terra Energy srl and Samminiatese Pozzi srl, resulted in an innovative project that proposes the integration of low-temperature geothermal sources, contained in underground multilayer aquifers and sediments, and photovoltaic solar energy to supplement the electricity supply for geothermal heat pumps.

This was one of the first projects on the Tuscany’s list to receive a grant under the regional call for funding for fundamental research, industrial research, and experimental development projects carried out jointly by companies and research bodies in the field of new technologies in the energy sector, photonics, ICT, robotics, and other related enabling technologies (FAR-FAS 2014 call). As a part of the development of renewable energy sources, Geoside will finance the remaining part of the project.

SMART GRID NAVICELLI (SGN) RESEARCH PROJECT

A 1 MW compensation and storage system built by the University of Pisa (Department of Energy and Systems Engineering) in the Navicelli area of Pisa.
Toscana Energia Green provided the 3.7 MWp Sol Maggiore photovoltaic plant, connected to the medium voltage grid, to field test the potential benefits of an active and reactive power compensation system to be combined with the photovoltaic production plant.

This is a major research project financed by the Tuscany Region and the members of the ATS (temporary association) set up for studies and trials of “Smart Grid” systems.
